East London NHS Foundation Trust Urgent Care Centre is at the Emergency Department at Newham University Hospital Trust in Glen Road, E13 8SL.

Weekdays: 8am – 11pm

Weekends and Bank Holidays: 9am – 11pm

 
About the Urgent Care Centre

The Urgent Care Centre is a nurse-led service where you can see an experienced clinician without an appointment. The centre is open 365 days of the year. If you require treatment please go to the Emergency Department where you will be assessed by a Care Navigator. The Care Navigator will ask you questions about your condition to assess whether you need to be seen in the Emergency Department, the Urgent Care Centre or need to be referred to a specialist service.

Minor illnesses and injuries treated at the Urgent Care Centre:

  • Abdominal pain: indigestion, constipation, vomiting, diarrhoea (advice and treatment if necessary)
  • Ear problems: otitis externa (outer ear infection), otitis media (middle ear infection) – only in children
  • Simple eye problems: conjunctivitis (bacterial, viral and allergic)
  • Flu/cold (advice and medication if necessary)
  • Health advice on hayfever/allergies
  • Impetigo – not recurrent
  • Simple sore throat, chest infection (treatment and advice)
  • Simple urine infections (lower UTI) in females and males (males: only if under 12 years)
  • Bites and Stings (advice and treatment if necessary)
  • Treatment and dressing of acute wounds
  • Skin complaints, eg, rash/sunburn/nappy rash
  • Removal of foreign bodies in eyes, nose ears and skin
  • Minor burns
  • Removal of rings from fingers
  • Under 16 pregnancy testing
  • Emergency contraception and advice
  • Limb injuries
  • Sprains and strains

There is no longer an ear irrigation clinic or dressing clinic at the Urgent Care Centre. Also the centre is unable to refer for termination of pregnancy.
