Occupational therapy is the assessment and treatment of people through the use of specific, purposeful activities in order to promote independence and quality of life.
We work with people affected by physical illness/disability, learning difficulty or mental health problems, using therapeutic activity to overcome the challenges these can present to everyday living.
Occupational therapists work in conjunction with other health, education and social care professionals across the borough in a variety of settings, to assist clients in a variety of different situations.
East London NHS Foundation Trust provides occupational therapy services for children and adults in need of therapy and/or rehabilitation whose needs relate mainly to physical issues. Occupational therapy for people whose needs are mainly related to mental health is also provided by the Trust.
Occupational therapy for people whose needs are mainly related to equipment and adaptations is provided by the Newham Council.
